WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The nationally ranked No. 18 Ithaca College men's track & field team posted its second-best finish in program history (tied for fifth in 1985-86) at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships on Saturday at the JDL Fast Track as the Bombers finished in a four-way tie for sixth place with 26 points.
Ithaca qualified four student-athletes for the championships and all four earned All-American status, including the program's first national title from
Jalen Leonard-Osbourne in the 60-meter dash. On Friday,
Luke Tobia was the national runner-up in the weight throw and Dom Mikula finished fifth in the pole vault.
Andy Frank capped off the impressive trip with a fifth place showing in the 200-meter dash.
Ithaca's previous best finish during the indoor season was 15th in 1987-88.
The Bombers tied with John Carroll, Carnegie Mellon and MIT. Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Washington University – St. Louis shared the team national title with 35 points, while Williams College took third with 32 points, Loras College was fourth at 30 points and SUNY Geneseo placed fifth with 27 points.
A little less than an hour after
Leonard-Osbourne won his national title in the 60, Frank walked onto the track to run in the 200 final.
Frank was the ninth seed entering the championship with a top time of 21.88. On Friday, he clocked a prelim time of 21.77 to move up to fourth heading into today's final.
Frank ran in the first heat of the final and posted a time of 21.97, which was second in the heat and fifth overall to secure his first career All-America honor. The second heat was extremely fast, as the national champion – JP Vaught – from Centre posted a collegiate record time of 21.37.
