Crain, Rodriguez Record Dominant Wins As Women’s Tennis Defeats RIT 6-3

Box Score ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca College women's tennis team defeated Rochester Institute of Technology 6-3 Saturday afternoon at Cornell University's Reis Tennis Center. Two Bombers recorded double bagel singles wins to top the Tigers. 
 
The Bombers posted two doubles wins and four in singles to secure the victory. With the win, IC now improves to a 2-0 record so far this season. 
 
Reigning Liberty League Rookie of the Week Taylor Crain secured wins in both singles and doubles over the Tigers. The first-year dominantly defeated her singles opponent, RIT's Jackie Drozd, 6-0, 6-0 in just her second collegiate singles match. 
 
Fellow first-year Lauren Rodriguez and junior Zoe Davis also recorded wins in both their singles and doubles matches. 
 
Davis and first-year Eliana Chelnick took home the first doubles win for the Bombers, defeating RIT's Mackenzie Wade and Abby Murray 8-6. 
 
The doubles pairing of Crain and Rodriguez finished second, narrowly taking down the Tiger's Gabby Donahue and Drozd 9-7.
 
Junior Becky Andrews and first-year Ekaterina Kelly fell to RIT's Julia Smolowitz and Kirsten Auble 8-6 in the final doubles match of the day. 
 
Rodriguez followed Crain's dominant singles win with her own double bagel victory, defeating the Tiger's Donahue 6-0, 6-0. 
 
In the third singles slot, Andrews lost her second match of the day to RIT's Auble 6-4, 6-1. 
 
After taking the first set from the Tiger's Murray 6-0, Davis dropped the second set to her opponent 6-2 at the fourth singles slot. The junior was able to bounce back, dominantly grabbing the third set from Murray 6-0. 
 
First-year Kayla Shenk took the final win of the day for Ithaca in the fifth singles spot, besting RIT's Smolowitz 6-3, 6-2 in straight sets. 
 
Junior Caroline Herz fell to the Tiger's Julianne Ho in a super-tiebreak (10-6) after winning the first set 6-2 and dropping the second 7-6 (7). 
 
Next up, the Bombers will host SUNY Oneonta in Glazer Arena for it's third match of the season next Saturday, March 5. Match time is slated for 10 a.m.
