Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Best RIT on the Road, 76-51

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – After trailing by as many as four points midway through the first quarter, the Ithaca College women's basketball team seized the lead and never looked back in a 76-51 Liberty League win on Tuesday evening. The Bombers improved to 20-3 overall and 15-1 within conference play.

Inside the Box Score
  • Three Bombers ended up scoring in double figures including Camryn Coffey (12), Melissa Buxton (12) and Natalie Smith who netted 10 points. Coffey was a perfect 4-of-4 from the field and 3-of-3 from downtown. Smith dished out four assists.
  • Ithaca shot 50 percent from the field (32-of-64) and outrebounded the Tigers by a 44-27 margin.
  • Kaleesha Joseph led all scorers with 27 points on 12-of-15 shooting.
  • The Bombers never relinquished the lead after the first quarter.
How It Happened
  • The teams traded baskets in the opening minute with Lindsey Albertelli matching a second chance Tigers basket with a layup in the paint. After the Tigers had the 6-4 advantage, Cameryn Coffey drove the ball to the basket and completed an and-one to put the Bombers up 7-6 with 5:33 left in the first quarter. It was Coffey again who tied it up for the Bombers (10-10), this time she netted a 3-pointer that was dished out by Natalie Smith. Back-to-back driving layups, first by Smith and the second by Grace Cannon saw Ithaca take a 16-14 lead into the next quarter.
  • The Bombers opened the second on a 6-0 scoring run that was sparked by four points from Melissa Buxton. IC continued its hot shooting with another Buxton bucket that was followed up by a Cara Volpe layup. On the ensuing possession Lindsey Albertelli forced a steal and converted on an easy layup putting the Bombers up 28-16 with 4:50 left in the half.
  • A give and go at the top of the key with Emily Dorn and Cara Volpe led to an easy Volpe layup and after forcing a defensive stop, Camryn Coffey scored her ninth point of the game on another trey (35-20). Neither team was able to score in the final minute of play as the Bombers held the 15-point lead at halftime.
  • IC was able to build a 42-26 lead thanks to two 3-pointers from Megan Yawman within the first four minutes of the third quarter. The Bombers continued to shoot well, which helped counter any RIT comeback attempt within the quarter. Alex Huewetter netted a trey with just over 90 seconds left in the quarter on a nice assist from Natalie Smith. Ithaca carried the 52-36 lead into the final 10 minutes of play.
  • Ithaca held the Tigers to 7-of-15 (46.7%) shooting in the fourth quarter with Alyssa Spady, Kelly Lamarre and Anya Watkins netting points within the period.
Ithaca will close out the regular season inside the friendly confines of Ben Light Gymnasium with back-to-back home game beginning Friday against Bard at 5:30 p.m. The Bombers will then square off against Vassar on Saturday.
