ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's basketball team continued to roll through Liberty League play on Saturday as IC entertained Union College inside Ben Light Gymnasium and came away with a decisive, 87-58, victory. The Bombers improve to 10-5 on the season and 6-2 in Liberty League action after winning their sixth game in the last seven matchups.
How it Happened:
- Jack Stern, junior, brought the energy early on by scoring the Bombers' first five points and sending a three-point effort into the stands on the defensive end. Liam Spellman continued in that vein, sinking a three-pointer from the top of the key after taking a hard fall on the other side of the court.
- The Bombers were stout in their defensive efforts, only allowing nine points in the opening 12 minutes. The Dutchmen were held to 16-percent conversion from the floor, while also struggling at the free-throw line (3-8).
- The Bombers were dominating the game and leading 29-9 midway through the first half. Union finally broke their duck with7:38 remaining in the half through a Brian Noone three-pointer.
- Back-to-back three pointers from Liam Spellman and Logan Wendell put the Bombers up 40-17 with 4:39 remaining in the half. Union finished the first half strong, fighting back to make the score 43-26.
- Good ball movement from both teams to start the second half led to easy buckets in the paint in the early stages of the second half. Union and Ithaca started the half 5-6 and 5-7 from the field respectively.
- Union outscored Ithaca in the first eight minutes of the second half 22-15, cutting the Bombers' lead to just 10 points. Brian Noone and Temi George led the Duthmen's attacks.
- Ithaca was more effective in transition, scoring 21 fastbreak points compared to Union's three. It wasn't until 2:13 was left in the game that Union's will was truly broken following a no look pass from Skylar Sinon to Triston Wennersten for a tough and-one finish
