ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca College women's volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season Friday afternoon in a five set thriller (33-31, 25-12, 28-26, 25-21, 15-13) against St. John Fisher. The Bombers still outscored the Cardinals by three points in the first game of the 2021 Bomber Invitational. Â

Inside the Box ScoreÂ
- Senior Jordyn Lyn Hayashi led Ithaca in both digs (29) and aces (7). The libero also netted four assists.Â
- First year setter Peyton Miller connected with a team-high 28 assists. Â
- Cardinal's Lindsey DeBonis recorded a match high of 17 kills, while teammate Katie Leahy led in assists with 41.Â
- The Bombers overwhelmingly led the match-up in blocks with 11 compared to St. John Fisher's three.Â
- Ithaca drops to 1-1 on the season, both in non-conference play.  Â
How it Happened
- After dropping the first two sets, the Bombers went on to force three more against the Cardinals.Â
- St. John Fisher battled back from 23-20 down in the first set to score three straight and even it up for the Cardinals. Both teams traded points until Fisher was able to pull away and win the set by two at 33-31.Â
- St. John Fisher dominated the second set early, earning nine-straight points to lead 16-5.Â
- Despite pulling away in the last three sets, the Bombers were plagued by unforced service and hitting errors.Â
- After evening up the score in the third set at 20 points apiece, the teams once again traded points late in the set until the Bombers were able to comeback and win the set 28-26 on a kill by senior outside hitter Alison Lipton. Â
- The Bombers came back from 21-17 down and scored eight-straight points to take the fourth set 25-21.Â
- Ultimately, Ithaca dropped the last set 15-13 on an error by Hayashi
Ithaca will play No. 12 Juniata College tonight at 7 p.m. in the third match of the 2021 Bomber Invitational.
