Box Score ITHACA, N.Y. – After letting the first two sets slip away, the Ithaca College volleyball team dug deep and railed in the third set fighting back from a 23-20 deficit to defeat the visiting Cortland Red Dragons, 28-30, 20-25, 25-23, 25-18 and 15-12. The third set rally swung all the momentum in the Bombers favor as they fed off the crowd's energy in Ben Light Gymnasium as the IC volleyball team played in its first regular season match since November 2, 2019, and the first within the Hill Center since October 26, 2019.
Official statistics from the season-opener on Wednesday will be made available at a later date due to technical difficulties.
Jaelyn Hershberger led the Bombers totaling 16 kills and
Faith Sabatier added nine. Junior setter
Laura Severance dished out 21 assists for IC along with an ace. SUNY Cortland was paced by Hannah Southclott who tallied 17 kills and a team-best 16 digs.
Ithaca College returns to action this Friday and Saturday when it welcomes St. John Fisher, Johns Hopkins and Juniata College to town for the Bomber Invitational. The Bombers will begin the invitational hosting St. John Fisher at 2 p.m. on Friday and then will square off against No. 12 Juniata College at 7 p.m. They close out action on Saturday against No. 6 ranked Johns Hopkins University at 4 p.m. in the Ben Light Gymnasium.
