GENEVA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's tennis team geared up for its biggest event of the fall season on Saturday when it began action at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships at the Northeast Regional Championships that was at the Hobart-William Smith Tennis Center in Geneva, N.Y. The first day was a challenging one for the Bombers, as IC was unable to qualify a player into Saturday's winner bracket in singles competition. Doubles results were not available at the time this release was posted but will be available for viewing on Sunday.
Ithaca had three entries in the singles draw and one doubles tandem in play when action began early on Saturday morning. The Bombers were unable to notch a victory in singles competition.
Rebecca Andrews drew the stiffest matchup on the day facing off with The College of New Jersey's Chase Eisenberg. Andrews had a few nice rallies but fell 6-1, 6-0.
Lauren Rodriguez also drew an opponent from The College of New Jersey in Aira Abalos and she battled hard, including winning a set. She opened the matchup winning the first set by a 6-3 score, but then dropped the next two by scores of 2-6 and 2-10.
Junior
Zoe Davis was the final singles competitor for the Bombers and she was unable to build momentum dropping her match to Catherine Gamble of St. Lawrence College by scores of 6-2 and 6-4.
In doubles action
Zoe Davis and
Eliana Chelnick teamed up but fell to Skidmore's Konika Dhull and Grace Truong by an 8-1 score.
On the second day of competition,
Eliana Chelnick defeated Julia Pida in the consolation bracket. Chelnick defeated her opponent from William Smith College by a score of 8-6. The Bombers also won a pair of consolation matches in doubles action. The duo of Chelnick and
Zoe Davis bested Sophie Brown/Dana D'Onofrio 8-0, while
Rebecca Andrews and
Lauren Rodriguez defeated Alexandra Dratch and Onalee Batcheller from SUNY New Paltz 8-7 (12-10).
The Northeast ITA Regional is the final competition of the fall for the Bombers who will return to action for the spring portion of their season on Saturday, February 19 in a home match against Wilkes University.
