OSWEGO, N.Y. – Neither team was able to beat the opposing goalkeepers on Tuesday evening with the Ithaca College men's soccer team battling Oswego State to a goalless draw. The Bombers defense especially the backline had a solid match putting in 100 percent effort throughout the 110 minutes of play.
Both squads had opportunities in the closing minutes of the double overtime period with Oswego State's HaJoon Lee firing a shot from well outside the box that ended up grazing the upper crossbar in the 108
th minute. IC quickly transitioned to its offensive third of the pitch and a nice dribble by
Theo Scott alluded the opposing defender, but his shot was sent wide left of the goal frame at the 108:50 mark.
Sophomore
Ian Whitfield made his first collegiate in goal for the Bombers and kept a clean sheet recording three saves. Oswego managed a match-high 14 shots, but only placed three attempts on frame.
The Lakers were the more threatening team in the first half as they outshot their foes 6-2 in the first half including an attempt from Derek Rivera that ricocheted off the post, but it was Ithaca College who forced two saves within the period from Brian Terra.
Ithaca College recorded more shots in the second half, which included a dangerous stretch in the final 10 minutes that nearly netted a goal. A shot attempt off the foot of
Ali Kapasi forced a Brian Terra save at the 83:30 mark and Terra was once again up to the task as he saved a
Duncan Schnur attempt in the 85
th minute.

Theo Scott and
Brendan Lebitsch each had two shots apiece to pace IC. The Bombers have yet to allow a goal in extra time in its three overtime contests, posting a 1-0-2 mark over that stretch.
Ithaca College will travel to No. 24 SUNY Cortland who entered the top-25 rankings in the first regular season poll that was released on Tuesday by the United Soccer Coaches. Game time against the Red Dragons is slated for Saturday, September 18 at 1 p.m.
