Softball Wins First Game, Second Game No Contest Against Skidmore

Box Score 1 Ithaca, N.Y. - The Ithaca College Softball team won the opening game of the day 11-2 against Skidmore in five innings. The second game was called due to weather and field conditions with Ithaca leading 6-3 after four innings.

Game One: Ithaca 11, Skidmore 2 (5 innings)

The Bombers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as five Bombers produced hits, including a solo homerun to dead centerfield by Haley White. Gabby Laccona led off with a double and moved to third on a stolen base and then Allison Dell'Orto singled to right for the first RBI of the game.

Julia Loffredo followed with a triple to right and scored on a throwing error as Dell'Orto scored from first. After two outs were recorded, White stroked the solo shot to cap off the inning.

Skidmore got two runs back in the top of the second on a two-run homer to center, but IC answered in the bottom half with four more runs to take an 8-2 lead. All four runs would come home with two outs in the inning as Gaffney drove in two – Dell'Orto and Laccona – with a double to left-center and then Kailey Collins doubled home Gaffney to make the score 7-2. Collins scored a few pitches later on a passed ball and wild pitch.

The Bombers put the game out of reach in the bottom of the third with three more runs to account for the final score of 11-2. Dell'Orto plated Tava Kasper with a double down the right field line and two more runs came on a double from Loffredo, bringing home Dell'Orto and Laccona.

Beth Fleming earned the victory, improving to 11-6 on the season, in 5.0 innings of work. Fleming allowed two runs on four hits and struck out three batters.

Laccona, Dell'Orto, Loffredo and Daniella Mulvey all recorded multi-hit games in the opener.

Game Two: Ithaca 6, Skidmore 3 (No Contest - Weather)

Ithaca kept the bats going to start the second game of the day, as Loffredo knocked in Dell'Orto and Laccona for a 2-0 lead after one inning. Loffredo recorded two more RBI's in the bottom of the second, getting a double to bring in Kasper and Dell'Orto.

Haley White kept the trend going with a lead-off home run in the bottom of the third to extend Ithaca's lead to 5-0.

Skidmore was able to get 3 runs back in the top of the fourth to cut Ithaca's lead to 5-3, but Loffredo again brought Laccona in to put Ithaca back up three after four innings.

Beth Fleming looked to finish off the game for Ithaca, but the game was called after the bottom of the fourth inning due to field conditions and weather.

Up Next: Ithaca will host RPI in the Liberty League Tournament Semifinals on Wednesday, May 12 at 4:00 p.m.
