GREENSBORO, N.C. – Two days after winning a national title in the 10,000-meter run, Parley Hannan of the Ithaca College women's track & field team secured her second national title of the NCAA Division III Championships with a time of 16:22.85 in the 5,000-meter run at Irwin Belk Track. Hannan now claims the 49th all-time individual national championship in school history and is the sixth Bomber to win three or more titles in their career.
 
Unlike the dominant wire-to-wire win in the 10K, Hannan battled through the 5K race. Hannan ran in a pack of two-to-three competitors for the opening two-plus miles. Hannan took the lead at the finish line at 11:18 (eighth lap) but was passed 33 seconds later where she remained for the rest of the lap.
 
By the 13:02 mark of the race, Hannan pulled back ahead of the field and turned it on from there. She held a one second lead with two laps to go and extended the distance to three second heading to the bell lap. On the final lap, Hannan put the race away with her fastest lap of the event at 1:11.317 and won the championship by eight seconds.
 
Hannan was running lap times between 1:18 and 1:22 before the final two laps, where she completed those in 1:16.13 and 1:11.31.
 
Hannan is the seventh student-athlete in Ithaca College history to win more than one national title in a single championship – Cindy Chiolo, 1986-87 (gymnastics), Amy Appler, 1989-90 (gymnastics), Colin Herlihy, 1995-96 (men's swimming & diving), Lindsey Mazer, 1997-98 (gymnastics), Taryn Cordani, 2016-17 (women's track & field) and Nickie Griesemer, 2017-18 (women's swimming & diving).
