Parley Hannan capped off the Bombers' stellar opening day of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships with another national title performance in the 10,000-meter run at the Irwin Belk Track. Hannan led right from the start and finished with a time of 34:33.53 to claim her second career national title and first in track & field.
Â
Right from the opening gun, Hannan jumped ahead of the pack and never faltered. Kassie Rosenbum of Loras struck with Hannan for over the opening five laps, but by the conclusion of the sixth lap, Hannan built a five-second lead and continued to pull away.
Â
By the two-mile marker, Hannan clocked in at 10:38.58 and was ahead by more than eight seconds. Midway through the 11th lap of the race, Hannan began to lap the field and finished the third mile in 16:11.26, owning a 19-second edge.
Â
After four miles, Hannan's cushion grew to 25 seconds with a time of 21:49.75. With a mile remaining, Hannan added eight more seconds to her lead and passed all but three runners in the 10K.
Â
On the bell lap, Hannan posted her best time of the championship, completing the final 400 meters in 1:17.012.
Â
Hannan is now a two-time national champion, as she won the 2019 NCAA Division III Cross Country title. She will have a chance to add another national crown to her resume later this weekend in the 5,000-meter run.
Â
It is now Ithaca's 48th individual national championship. Hannan joins Taryn Cordani '18 as the only 10K champions in school history, as Cordani won back-to-back 10K titles in 2017 and 2018.
