CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally Ithaca College men's and women's track & field teams were in action this weekend at the Cortland Red Dragon Open. Ithaca sent numerous throwers and one multi athlete.
Logan Bruce competed in the heptathlon over the past two days and came away with a first place finish with a event total of 4821, surpassing her previous best performance by more than 200 points. Bruce now ranks fourth in Division III.
She won all seven events and scored more than 700 points in four of those, including 848 in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.95 seconds.
Also competing for the women on Saturday were
Ariyahna Bernard,
Samantha Healy,
Liana Shames and
Kalena Yearwood.
Bernard finished first in the hammer throw at 49.75 meters, first in the discus with a mark of 38.58 meters and second in the shot put at 12.39 meters.
Healy was second in the discus with a mark of 35.54 meters and second in the hammer at 49.52 meters.
Yearwood secured a third place mark in the hammer, measuring out 43.25 meters, and was fifth in the discus with a heave of 32.58 meters. Shames took fourth in the hammer at 41.97 meters and seventh in the discus at 31.04 meters.
On the men's side,
Luke Tobia won the shot put (13.81 meters) and hammer (53.07 meters).
Justin Showstead was the runner-up in the shot put (13.57 meters) and discus (40.92 meters) and finished third in the hammer (46.09 meters) and fourth in the javelin (38.27 meters).
Brendan Sheehan placed fourth in the shot put with a mark of 12.64 meters.
Ithaca heads to Geneseo next Saturday, May 1 for a tune-up before the Liberty League Championships on May 8.
