ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's swimming & diving program returned to action on Saturday and sit second following the second day of the 10
th Annual Bomber Invite at Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium. SUNY Geneseo are atop the leaderboard with a total of 1278 points with Ithaca just behind them totaling 1037.5 points. Saturday was split into three sessions: swimming at 10 a.m., diving at 1 p.m. and swimming again at 6 p.m.
Swimming- Morning Session
- The Bombers opened the morning session on a strong note putting together second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. It was Stanley Zaneski, Tim Hector, Max Braithwaite and James Collishaw teaming up to finish right behind SUNY Geneseo with a time of 1:24.34. The Knights "A" Team won the event by producing a time of 1:23.37.
- It was yet another impressive performance from sophomore standout Jack Wadsworth who put together his best performance to date in the 400-yard IM. Wadsworth won the event with a time of 3:59.20. That time marked another men's team program record for the sophomore who bested Ben Ludlow from Geneseo who finished the event in 4:03.94. The recorded time by Wadsworth was Ithaca College program record and hit an NCAA "B" cut.
- The Bombers had a trio of outstanding finishes in the 100-yard butterfly with Tim Hector leading the way with a third-place finish in 51.64. First year Santiago Ludwig was right behind him touching the final wall fifth with a recorded time 51.67. Spencer Brownewell collected a 10th place finish with his season-best time of 52.36.
- It was another first-place finish for Ithaca College, this time occurring in the 200-yard freestyle. Sophomore James Collishaw won the event for the Bombers touching the final wall in 1:42.61 as he edged out Max White from Vassar College who finished in 1:43.28. Stanley Zaneski produced a sixth-place finish (1:44.56) and Matthew Johnston finished 10th with a recorded time of 1:45.19.
- In the final event of the morning session, Ithaca College finished second behind SUNY Geneseo in the 400-yard medley relay. Jack Wadsworth, Michael Paulos, Santiago Ludwig and James Collishaw were the top team for IC producing a time of 3:26.54 in their respective heat. Wadsworth once again showed out for the Bombers as his backstroke split time was a new 100-yard backstroke team record and hit upon the NCAA "B" cut.
Diving- Afternoon Session
- SUNY Geneseo were dominant on the one-meter board on Saturday as they had the first, second and third-place finishers. The top finisher for the Bombers was Ethan Godfrey who put together a fifth-place score. The junior surpassed the NCAA Division III qualifying standard with a total of 470.45, besting the standard of 440. Theo Summerville earned himself a 10th place finish totaling 403.60.
Swimming- Evening Session
- First year Santiago Ludwig bested his seeded time by over five seconds in the 200-yard butterfly and eared a third-place finish. Ludwig touched the final wall in 1:53.71.
- It was a historic 100-yard backstroke event that got the fans on their feet with a first, second and third place finish for Ithaca College. Jack Wadsworth bettered his program record in the event and it was a "B" cut qualification time of 48.14. Finishing the event in second was James Collishaw (50.97) and Tim Hector produced a finals time of 52.01 for the third-place finish.
- Sophomore Ethan Mossi was the Bombers best finisher in the final individual event of Saturday coming in 10th at 1:00:03.
- The Ithaca College relay team once again showed their strength as the "A" team won the 800-yard freestyle relay. It was Stanley Zaneski, Max Braithwaite, Matthew Johnston and Jack Wadsworth who teamed up for an impressive time of 6:56.34.
The Bombers are back in action tomorrow for the final day of competition of the 10
th Annual Bomber Invitational. Swimming is slated to resume at 9 a.m. with the longest event, the 1,650 freestyle. That event will be followed by the 100-yard IM, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 200-yard breaststroke and 400-yard freestyle relay.
