ITHACA, N.Y. – In the hours leading up to the 2021 Stagg Bowl, which took place on Friday, December 17, the Associated Press and D3football.com released their respective All-America teams. For Ithaca College,
Nicholas Bahamonde and
Jake Villanueva were once again honored after their superb seasons during IC's 8-2 campaign.
The duo followed up their selections to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All-America Teams with further accolades, as Bahamonde was named to the first team by the AP and second team by D3football.com. Villanueva found a spot on the AP All-America Second Team.
Ithaca has now garnered a total of 151 All-Americans since 1940.
Just missing out on becoming a consensus First Team All-American, which would have been the first for IC in Jeff Wittman in 1992, Bahamonde was the first Bomber to be named All-American by three organizations since 2008 – Brian Weverbergh.
Bahamonde had a career year this past fall in his second full season with the program. Bahamonde led Division III in field goals made with 18 in 22 attempts. Those 18 makes set an IC school record, which included four in one game against Union on November 6 to tie another school mark. He made three field goals this season over 40 yards. Bahamonde also went 32-of-34 in extra point attempts and averaged 59.3 yards per kickoff with 24 touchbacks in 65 kicks.
Â
Over his two full seasons, Bahamonde has booted 29 field goals, with a long of 47 yards, and 53 touchbacks in 137 kickoffs. He has also gone 80-of-85 in extra point tries.
Villanueva joins rarified air on South Hill as he is just the first offensive lineman to be named to two different All-America teams since 2005 – Joe Scalice was named first team by AFCA, Football Gazette and AP, and was honorable mention by D3football.com.
Villanueva started all 10 games this season at guard and has been a mainstay on the line since arriving to campus in 2018, making 30 starts in 32 games.
During the 8-2 campaign this fall, Ithaca averaged 30.6 points and 415.1 yards of offense. The Bombers rushed for 161.0 yards per game, which were the most for an IC team since 2008 (194.1). IC's 30.6 points per outing this season marks the second consecutive year in which the Bombers put up over 30 a contest since IC accomplished the same feat in 2007 and 2008.
