Football Trio Selected as CoSIDA Academic All-District Recipients

ITHACA, N.Y. - The 2021 Academic All-District Football Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Three members of the Ithaca College football program were honored for Division III District 3 – Nicholas Bahamonde, Michael Roumes and Andrew Vito. The trio extends Ithaca's run to seven-straight years with at least three recipients.

First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in mid-December. In order for a student-athlete to be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-District, the nominee needs to be a sophomore or higher in academic standing with a 3.3 or higher grade-point average.

Roumes highlights the three IC recipients and joins elite company as a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection. Roumes, a senior defensive back from Succasunna, N.J, has achieved a 3.57 GPA in clinical health sciences during his career. On the field this season, he had 51 total tackles (30 solo) to lead the team, as well as 3.5 tackles for loss. Roumes had two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery, as well as two interceptions that were paired with five total pass breakups.

Bahamonde, a junior kicker from Berryville, Va., makes his first appearance on the Academic All-District list with a 3.71 GPA in television-radio. Bahamonde led Division III in field goals made this season with 18 and set IC records for single-season field goals and tied the school mark with four made field goals in a game. He would be named Liberty League Special Teams Player of the Year for the second consecutive season as well as first-team honors. Bahamonde converted 32-of-34 PATs and went 18-of-22 field goals with a long of 45 yards. Additionally, he booted 24 touchbacks this season for an average 59.3 yards per kickoff.

Vito closes out his distinguished career on South Hill with his first CoSIDA Academic All-District honor. Vito, a senior wide receiver from Towaco, N.J., posted a 3.39 GPA in business administration. After being named to the All-Liberty League Second-Team for three consecutive seasons, he finally received first-team honors this year. Vito had 704 receiving yards on 63 catches paired with four touchdowns. Earlier this season, Vito set Ithaca's all-time receptions record and finished his career with 270 catches for 3,146 yards and 20 touchdowns.
