ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's soccer program improved to 4-0 in Liberty League play following a resounding win over Bard College with the team celebrating Senior Day prior to the first touch. The 6-0 score line didn't flatter the Bombers who dominated possession and recorded 24 shots compared to Bard's seven. The Bombers now hold an overall record of 6-4-3 while Bard dropped to 4-6 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
Ithaca looked to be the stronger team from start to finish, with
Theo Scott embarking on several slaloming runs within the first 10 minutes. It didn't take long for the Bombers to open the scoring either.
Jonathan Kyriakidis slotted home his first goal of the day after receiving a perfect pull-back from
Ali Kapasi.
Duncan Schnur, who conducted much of the team's forward play in the first half, had a curling shot stopped by an athletic dive from the opposing goalkeeper, Gavin Hersey. Ithaca wrapped up the first half with a goal from
Jared Gast, whose first collegiate goal invigorated the IC crowd.
Ithaca put their foot on the gas to start the second half. Just five minutes in,
Alex Leahy received a quick throw-in and promptly set up Kyriakidis for his second goal of the contest. The senior forward leads the team in scoring on the season with four goals. The Bombers started to shift into cruise control with a comfortable 3-0 lead.
Aidan Keenan encapsulated the spirit of the day from outside the box with a stunning shot into the top right corner, making the score 4-0. Then,
Colin Shust all but confirmed Bard's humiliation just two minutes after Keenan's goal. Shust defiantly headed home a corner from
Zackary Dewitt before running to the corner for a full-team celebration.
The icing on the cake came in the 73
rd minute when senior
Owen Johnstone assisted freshman
Jackson Fox for Fox's first goal of the season. However, the action didn't stop, with seniors
Kevin Dorf and
Christopher Ogden nearly adding to the landslide win in the closing minutes of the game.
It was a joyous senior day for the Bombers, but none more so than for senior goalkeeper,
Lee Folger. Folger has embraced his starting role, and now holds an undefeated record of 4-0-1 on the season. Him and his teammates seem to have completely forgotten about their seven-game winless run and will look to carry their red-hot form on the road against Skidmore College on Friday, October 15.
