Annadale-On-Hudson, N.Y. – The Ithaca College volleyball team was firing on all cylinders on Friday evening competing in its second to last Liberty League contest of the regular season as they won a three-set match at Bard College. The Bombers were on fire in the first set winning 25-9, took the second set by a 25-16 score and completed the sweep with a 25-17 win. IC improved to 13-10 overall and 5-1 within the Liberty League and will compete in its final conference contest tomorrow afternoon traveling to Vassar College.
The Bombers racked up nine kills within the opening set on an impressive 17 attempts, which equated to a .471 hitting percentage. They also were sparked by eight service aces with most of them coming in the middle portion of the set. IC opened with a 9-5 lead that was capped off by a
Camryn O'Leary kill that was assisted by senior
Laura Severance. The away team remained hot rattling off 11 of the next 13 points, which included back-to-back aces from
Peyton Miller that saw the Bombers go up 20-7. Another solid swing from O'Leary and a Raptors hitting error concluded the set and put Ithaca up 1-0.
Ithaca College once again built an early lead at 7-3 as a highlight within the run included a service ace from
Julia Costa as the sophomore placed the ball past the Bard backline. The Raptors scored five-straight points to claw back, but a
Samantha Klemm kill seized all momentum and IC went on a scoring run of its own with that point. Up 12-9, the Bombers scored six in a row to gain breathing room and went up 21-13 after
Alexandra Montgomery connected on an outstanding hit. Ithaca finished up the set with another ace this time from
Jordyn Lyn Hayashi and went up 2-0 with the 25-16 victory thanks to the final point being scored on a kill from
Aleka Darko that was once again assisted by
Laura Severance.
The third set was the most competitive with Bard College going up 6-3 before the Bombers eventually tied it up at six points apiece from a
Camryn O'Leary kill. Ithaca scored five more in a row to force an opposing timeout, but the momentum continued which included a nice swing that connected for a kill from
Josie Hampton that put her team up 16-11. IC ended up holding on for a eight point win to complete the sweep.
The Bombers ended up matching the second set output of 13 kills as they doubled the mark set by Bard College.
Camryn O'Leary finished with a match-best eight kills and the trio of
Grace Isaksen,
Laura Severance and
Julia Costa each notched three aces each.
Ithaca concludes Liberty League play with a road match against Vassar College at 2 p.m. The Bombers will take on SUNY Cortland this upcoming week (Oct. 27) for their final away contest of the regular season.
