Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Dominate Possession in 2-0 Victory over St. Lawrence University

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's soccer team dominated possession especially in the second half to remain perfect in Liberty League competition as they bested St. Lawrence University 2-0 on Saturday afternoon as part of the alumni weekend festivities on campus. The win pushes the Bombers to 5-4-3 overall and 3-0 within the conference while the Saints dropped to 5-5 on the season and 1-2 within the Liberty League.

It wasn't until the 25th minute that a shot was recorded in the match as the only attempt within the first 45 minutes of action that was placed on target was pushed away and saved by Lee Folger. IC nearly got on the board within the first 90 seconds of the second half when Jonathan Kyriakidis found himself with the ball in the six-yard box with a one-on-one opportunity against the goalkeeper, but Ben Woelfinger made a tough save stretching to his near post to deny the goal.

After a tackle that gained possession for the Bombers, Kyriakidis was sent on the counter attack thanks to a through ball and he found Zackary Dewitt who calmly chipped the ball passed the keeper for his first collegiate goal. The sophomore nearly found the back of the net just minutes later, but it took another Ben Woefinger save to deny IC the insurance effort.

IC would make it 2-0 in the 78th minute with Conor Baird joining the goal scoring party. The Bombers were once again attacking on the counter and Ali Kapasi smartly crossed the ball to Baird who had an easy tap-in.

It was another outstanding performance between the pipes for senior goalkeeper Lee Folger who has kept a clean sheet in each of the last three games. The Chapel Hill, N.C., native recorded three saves and has a 0.22 goals against average this season in 409:11 minutes of action.

The Bombers finished the match outshooting the visitors by a 16-9 margin as well as 6-3 edge in shots that were on target. Conor Baird, Theo Scott, Connor Tierney, Jonathan Kyriakidis and Duncan Schnur each recorded two shots in the IC victory.

Ithaca College will return to action in exactly a week concluding a three-game homestand on Saturday, October 9 when the program hosts Bard College. The Bombers will celebrate Senior Day prior to the match with first touch slated for 2 p.m.
