The Ithaca College softball team won their third straight Empire 8 Championship game, knocking off St. John Fisher in the finals with a score of 15-0. The Bombers won the game in five innings.
Ithaca scored quickly in the top of the first inning as they scored six runs. With four more runs in the second, the Bombers saw themselves up 10-0 going into the third inning. Ithaca scored one more run in the third and fourth innings, and a final three runs in the top of the fifth to secure the victory.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Dulac had a huge day for the Bombers, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a stolen base. Also having a great day from the plate was senior Sara Durant, as she went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Sophomore Leigh Bonkowski hit her sixth home run of the season as she went 1-for-4 with one RBI.
Freshman Zahida Sherman got her 14th victory of the season for the Bombers. She allowed five hits throughout the contest and struck out three.
The Bombers receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with their Empire 8 Championship victory. The brackets and regional sites will be announced by the NCAA at 9 a.m. May 2.
