The No. 14 Ithaca College softball team lost to the No. 5-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University Titans 4-3 in the first game of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Leadoff Classic on March 12.
The contest was scoreless until the bottom of the third when the Titans scored two runs. Illinois Wesleyan tallied two more runs in the bottom of the fifth before the Bombers got themselves on the board with two runs in the top of the sixth inning to cut the lead to 4-2. Ithaca scored one more run in the top of the seventh, but that was all they could add as the Titans turned a double play to end the game.
Sophomore Leigh Bonkowski paved the way for the Bombers as she went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Kaitlyn Dulac went 3-for-4 with one RBI. Freshman Zahida Sherman took the loss for the Bombers while only allowing three hits throughout the contest. The Bombers will face off against Bethany College at 7:30 p.m. in LaGrange Ga.
