The Ithaca College softball team fell to SUNY Cortland in both games of its doubleheader, losing the first game by a score of 5-4 and the second game by a score of 7-1. With the two losses, Ithaca is now 12-10 on the season.
Game 1 | Cortland 5, Ithaca 4
The game was tied 4-4 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, but Cortland scored a walk off run to take the game 5-4.
Ithaca struck first by scoring one run in the top of the third, which Cortland immediately responded to by scoring two runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Bombers tied the game in the top of the fourth but lost the lead again when the Red Dragons scored one more run in the bottom of the fifth.
In the top of the sixth, sophomore Kaitlyn Dulac hit her fourth-career home run for the Bombers to take the lead 4-3. It was not enough, however, as the Red Dragons scored one run in both six and seventh innings to win the game.
Dulac finished the game going 1-for-3 with two RBI, while junior Sara Coddington went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Freshman Zahida Sherman took the loss for the Bombers, while Cortland's Stephanie Adamshick remained perfect on the year with a 13-0 record.
Game 2 | Cortland 7, Ithaca 1
The game was close heading into the fifth inning, as the Red Dragons scored twice in the first inning and the Bombers' Mel Chinigo hit a solo home run in the second. With the score 2-1, Cortland put five more runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth, and IC was unable to have any runners cross home plate the rest of the game.
This is the first time all season IC has been swept. The Bombers will visit Alfred University for a doubleheader at 1 p.m. April 17 in Wellsville, NY.
