The Ithaca College softball team split its doubleheader against Penn State University, losing the first game 8-2, but winning the second game 6-5.

Ithaca took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Penn State tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Nittany Lions added one run in the bottom of the fourth inning and five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the 8-2 win.

Sophomore Mildred Piscopo went 2-for-4 with one RBI and freshman Maria Kramer went 2-for-2 with one run scored. Junior Diane Para had one hit as she went 1-for-3.

Junior Cathy Blake gave up eight hits and recorded two strikeouts.

Game 2 | Ithaca 6, Penn State 5

Ithaca took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Penn State took the lead with five runs in the bottom of the first. In the top of the sixth inning, the Bombers scored four runs to take the 6-5 lead.

Piscopo went 2-for-4 with one RBI and sophomore Carol Buckheit went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Para went 1-for-4 with one RBI and sophomore Patti Sheedy had one RBI as well as she went 1-for-1.

Sophomore Kathy Volpi recorded four strikeouts and gave up eight hits in the win.
