KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Ithaca College softball team split a pair of games on Thursday, falling 6-0 to the University of Wisconsin–Platteville before rebounding with a 6-1 victory over Manchester University. With the split, the Bombers improved to 5-3 on the season.
WISCONSIN–PLATTEVILLE 6, ITHACA 0
Madison Collins kept the Pioneers off the scoreboard through the first three innings before UW–Platteville broke through in the top of the fourth, when Mia Savage singled home Delaney John. The score remained 1-0 until the seventh inning, when the Pioneers added five runs to pull away for the win.
UW–Platteville finished with nine hits and was aggressive on the basepaths, swiping five stolen bases in the contest. All five seventh inning runs were unearned. Ithaca was limited to three hits, with
Molly Gibson recording a hit and
Kailen Winkelblech going 2-for-3 at the plate.
ITHACA 6, MANCHESTER 1
The Bombers bounced back later in the afternoon after Manchester scored a run in the bottom of the first inning. Ithaca responded by scoring six unanswered runs to secure the victory.
Emerson Poulin tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third, driving in
Anna Bello on a sacrifice fly. From there,
Isabella Maynard would plate a pair when she drove in both
Kailen Winkelblech and
Gabriella Facciponti with a singe into the right center field gap.
The Bombers added three insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning, as Facciponti,
Elise Waddington, and
Anna Bello each scored unearned runs in the frame.
Taylor Brunn earned the win in the circle, improving to 2-0 after striking out five batters over 7.0 innings while allowing five hits.
Ithaca will wrap up its Spring Break trip on Friday, facing Eastern Connecticut State at 9 a.m. before taking on No. 14 Wisconsin–Whitewater at 11:15 a.m.
