Ithaca Softball Takes Two at St. John Fisher

PITTSFORD, N.Y. - The Ithaca College softball team was on the road for their doubleheader that they opened in dominant fashion on Sunday afternoon, shutting out St. John Fisher 5-0 in game one and came away with a 23-10 game two victory with a strong all-around performance both offensively and defensively.

Ithaca struck first in inning one when Elise Waddington delivered an RBI single to center field, bringing home Anna Bello for the early 1-0 lead. The Bombers added another run in the second inning as Kailen Winkelblech lined an RBI single to left, scoring Haley Petrucci and extending the score to 2-0.
 
After five scoreless innings from the Bombers defense, Ithaca broke the game back open in the sixth. Anna Bello drove in Madison Schoenenberger with a groundout, and later on a fielding error that allowed Haley Petrucci to score, bringing the score to 4-0.
 
The Bombers added another run in the seventh inning when Ava Rao grounded out to the shortstop, bringing in Elise Waddington for the Bombers final tally of the game.
 
Kailen Winkleblech dominated offensively with two hits and two RBI, while Anna Bello and Elise Waddington both had a two-hit performance. Haley Petrucci scored twice as Ithaca ended with 11 hits in the first game.
 
Mady Rowell stood out in the circle, throwing a shutout game to earn the win. She allowed only five hits while keeping the Cardinals off the scoreboard for all seven innings.

Ithaca wasted no time getting on the board in the top of the first. Emersen Poulin scored after Kailen Winkelblech reached first on a throwing error. Elise Waddington followed by singling to center field, bringing in Winkelblech, bringing the score to 2-0 after the first. 
 
After being down 10-2in the second inning, the Bombers brought in eight runs to tie the game. Paige Cannon started the rally, doubling to left field scoring Molly Gibson. Anna Bello kept it going with an RBI double, and Emersen Poulin followed with a run scoring single. Sydney Miranda delivered a two-run triple before Elise Waddington launched a two-run homer. Isabella Maynard finished the inning with a three-run home run to break the game back open.
 
After adding another run in the third inning when Emersen Poulin scored on Sydney Miranda's stolen base, the Bombers extended the inning in the fourth. Elise Waddington homered down the left field line, bringing the score to 12-9. 
 
Ithaca kept up the hits during the fifth inning when Sydney Miranda doubled to center field, bringing in Anna Bello before stealing home later in the inning, pushing the score 14-9. 
 
Ithaca put the game out of reach for the Cardinals with an eight-run sixth inning. Anna Bello drove in Madison Schoenenberger with a double, Elise Waddington added an RBI after being hit by a pitch, and Isabella Maynard delivered the knockout blow with a grand slam to left field. The Bombers added two more runs bringing the total to 23.
 
Maynard led the offensive run with three hits and seven RBI, including two home runs. Elise Waddington went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI. Bello, Poulin, and Miranda each collected three hits as well, with Miranda driving in three and scoring three runs.
 
In the circle, Madison Collins earned the win in relief, throwing four innings and striking out three. Kahlen Cornell closed out the game in the final inning with two strikeouts, securing Ithaca the sweep. 
 
The Bombers will travel to Clinton, N.Y. on Wednesday, April 1 for a non-conference doubleheader against Hamilton. Game times are slated for 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
