The Ithaca College softball team split its doubleheader against SUNY Cortland, losing the first game 2-1, but winning the second game by a score of 3-1.

The Red Dragons jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and added their second run in the bottom of the second inning to make the score 2-0. Ithaca's lone run of the game came in the top of the fifth inning.

Senior Kathy Volpi went 1-for-3 with one RBI and junior Wendy Jo Haft went 2-for-3 with one run scored. Junior Maria Kramer went 1-for-2 and senior Carol Buckheit had one hit as well as she went 1-for-3.

Volpi recorded two strikeouts and only allowed seven hits throughout the contest.

The Bombers responded to the loss by scoring two runs in the top of the first inning to take the early 2-0 lead. Ithaca added one run in the top of the second inning and Cortland scored its lone run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Kramer went 2-for-4 with one RBI and senior Mildred Piscopo had two hits as well as she went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored. Freshman Jenny Ott went 2-for-3 with one run scored and sophomore Vicky Rizzolo went 1-for-3.

Sophomore Julie Wilcox pitched a four-hitter through seven innings pitched.
