The Ithaca College softball team lost to SUNY Cortland by a score of 10-7 in the opening round of the NYSWCAA Tournament.

Tied at 7-7, the Red Dragons scored three runs in the eighth inning to secure the 10-7 win.

The Red Dragons put a run on the board first as they took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Both teams scored one run in the fourth inning to make the score 2-1, but the Bombers responded with three runs in the fifth inning to take the 4-2 lead.Â

Ithaca added one run in the sixth inning, but Cortland responded with two runs in the sixth inning to cut the lead to 5-4. The Bombers scored two runs in the seventh inning and the Red Dragons scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to force extra innings.Â

Junior Marybeth Progno went 3-for-4 with a team-leading three RBI. Senior Deb Smith went 1-for-4 with two RBI and sophomore Heather Afarian had one RBI with one run scored. Junior Amy Bannon went 4-for-5 with one run scored.Â

Freshman Heather Ware gave up 11 hits in the loss.Â
