Ithaca vs Scranton, 1988

The Ithaca College softball team split its doubleheader against the University of Scranton, losing the first game 8-7, but winning the second game 11-1.
 
Game 1 | Scranton 8, Ithaca 7
 
Scranton scored one run in the top of the first inning, but the Bombers took the lead with two runs scored in the bottom half of the inning. Ithaca added two runs in the bottom of the third inning to extend the lead to 4-1.
 
The Lady Royals scored an impressive seven runs in the top of the fourth inning to retake the lead with a score of 8-4. The Bombers scored one run in the bottom of the fourth inning and two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the lead to 8-7, but could not score enough to tie the game.
 
Sophomore Debby Smith went 3-for-4 with one RBI and senior Wendy Jo Haft went 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored. Freshman Amy Bannon had one RBI as she went 2-for-4 with one run scored and freshman Marie Higby went 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored.
 
Junior Julie Wilcox gave up eight hits and had four strikeouts in the loss.
 
Game 2 | Ithaca 11, Scranton 1
 
Ithaca took a commanding 7-0 lead in the game in the bottom of the second inning and then added four runs in the bottom of the third inning to take an 11-0 lead. The Lady Royals scored their lone run of the contest in the top of the fourth inning to cut the lead to 11-1.
 
Haft went 3-for-4 with three RBI and Higby went 1-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Freshman Jodi Maddren went 1-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored and senior Gretchen Lynch had one RBI as well as she went 1-for-3.
 
Sophomore Cindy Gorsch struck out four batters and only allowed five hits through seven innings pitched.
