The Ithaca College softball team fell to Cornell University in both games of its non-conference doubleheader, losing game one 6-4 and game two 1-0.
Game 1 | Cornell 6, Ithaca 4
Cornell scored in the bottom of the first, but the Bombers responded with one run of their own in the top of the third. Cornell added three more runs in the bottom and the fourth and two in the bottom of the fifth to extend its lead to 6-1. The Bombers scored three runs in the top of the seventh, but not enough to tie the score.
Senior Kristin Furdon hit her eighth home run of the season. She finished the game going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Junior Liz Yentema went 1-for-4 with one RBI.
Freshman Abbey Pelot is now 13-5 on the season with the loss. She allowed eight hits and struck out two.
Game 2 | Cornell 1, Ithaca 0
The lone run of the contest came in the bottom of the first when Cornell scored. Both teams had five hits on the day.
Furdon paved the way for the Bombers offensively, going 2-for-3 in the game. Junior Abby Hanrahan pitched six innings, only allowing five hits and striking out five.
The Bombers are the No. 1 seed in the Empire 8 Tournament and will face-off against Elmira College at noon May 3.
