Ithaca vs RIT, 2003

The Ithaca College softball team swept its doubleheader of the Rochester Institute of Technology, winning the first game 7-1 and the second game 6-2. With the two wins, the Bombers are 11-1 in conference play. 
 
Game 1 | Ithaca 7, RIT 1
 
The game was highlighted by three Bombers hitting home runs, which ties the single-game school record. 
 
Ithaca scored one run in the second inning and then three more in the third. RIT cut the lead to 3-1 with one run of their own in the third, but it was the only run they scored all game. The Bombers added one run in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings to get the win. 
 
Freshman Leigh Bonkowski now leads the team in most home runs with three. This is the third home run she has hit in three games. She finished the first game going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Sophomore Maddie Kraemer and freshman Kaitlyn Dulac each hit their second home runs of the season as well, both having one RBI. 
 
Junior Sara Durant led the team in RBI with three as she went 1-for-4 with a double. Senior Abby Hanrahan pitched all seven innings while striking out seven. She is now 13-4 on the season. 
 
Game 2 | Ithaca 6, RIT 2
 
Ithaca scored two runs in the bottom of the first, but RIT tied it at 2-2 in the top of the third. The Bombers were able to score two more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to extend the lead. 
 
Bonkowski hit her fourth home run of the season, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Sophomore Abbey Pelot picked up her 10th win of the season as she pitched all seven innings and struck out four.
 
With both wins, Ithaca clinches the Empire 8 regular-season title for the third straight year. They will be the top seed and host school for the Empire 8 championship tournament, which will begin May 2 at Kostrinsky Field.
