The Ithaca College softball team fell to Springfield College in both games of its doubleheader, losing the first game 4-3 in nine innings and losing the second game 7-4.
Game 1 | Springfield 4, Ithaca 3
The game was tied 1-1 heading into the top of the ninth inning as the Bombers scored off a two-run double by junior Nicki Swan. Leading 3-1, Springfield scored three runs to win the game.
Springfield scored one run in the bottom of the first inning and maintained that lead until the Bombers tied the contest in the top of the seventh to force extra innings.
Swan led the team with two RBI and freshman Julie McGraw went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Junior Tracy Welliver went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Swan gave up 13 hits and struck out three batters in the loss.
Game 2 | Springfield 7, Ithaca 4
Springfield went up 2-0 after the first inning, but the Bombers responded with four runs in the top of the second inning off junior Marie Kelly's grand slam. The Pride took back the lead in the bottom of the second inning with three runs, and then added one run in each of the third and sixth innings.
Kelly was responsible for all four of Ithaca's RBI, finishing the day going 1-for-4. Welliver and freshman Julie McGraw both went 1-for-2.
Sophomore Rebecca Lafornara picked up the loss after pitching 2.1 innings and striking out one batter.
