The Ithaca College softball team advances to the NCAA Northeast Regional championship game with a 7-3 win against Wheaton College.
Ithaca scored one run in the first inning off junior Amy McMordie's single to right field which scored freshman Vanessa Montorsi. In the top of the third inning, the Bombers added three more runs, which was highlighted by an RBI triple from Montorsi and a one-run double by sophomore Cheryl Wah.
Wheaton cut the lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the third inning. In the top of the fourth, Ithaca added two more runs with a bases-loaded single. Wheaton scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth, but it was not enough as Ithaca scored one final run in the top of the fifth.
Sophomore Julie McGraw went 3-for-4 with three RBI and Montorsi went 1-for-3 with one RBI. McMordie and Wah each had one RBI as well.
Senior Nicki Swan gave up six hits and struck out four batters in the win. The Bombers set a school record with its 30th win of the season and head coach Deb Pallozzi earns her 200th career win.
