The Ithaca College softball team won both games of its doubleheader against Springfield College, winning the first game 8-3 and the second game 6-5.
Game 1 | Ithaca 8, Springfield 3
Ithaca jumped out to an early 1-0 lead and then scored an impressive six runs in the bottom of the third inning. Springfield scored one run in the fourth, but Ithaca responded with another run in the fourth. Springfield scored runs in the fifth and seventh innings to cut the lead to 8-3.
Freshman Janine Lawler went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Freshman Christie Davis, sophomore Julie McGraw, junior Amy McMordie and senior Nicki Swan all went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Swan pitched all seven innings while allowing eight hits and striking out seven batters.
Game 2 | Ithaca 6, Springfield 5
Springfield led Ithaca 5-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning. The Bombers scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead and tied the game with one run in the bottom of the fifth. Ithaca took the 6-5 lead with one run scored in the bottom of the sixth.
Freshman Melissa Fratine, McGraw and senior Mary Ellen Hoffman each went 2-for-3 with one RBI and sophomore Cheryl Wah went 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored.
Swan picked up her seventh win of the season as she only allowed four hits and struck out two batters in 4.1 innings pitched.
