JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – The 14^th-ranked Ithaca College wrestling team continued its weekend on Sunday when a small contingent hit the road to take part in the 2020 Jamestown Community College Open. The Bombers performed well at the event with five IC grapplers earning place-finishes on the day. The competition was the final tournament-style event on Ithaca's 2019-20 schedule, as the squad heads into the final dual portion of the schedule in advance of the NCAA Mideast Regionals at the end of February.
 
Headlining Ithaca's list of competitors on Sunday was sophomore 125-pounder Matt Griffin who posted IC's highest finish at runner-up in his bracket. Griffin went 2-1 on the day, earning a 16-0 technical fall over Gannon's Paul Cantafio and a 2-0 win over Niagara CC's Jacob Bell. Unfortunately, he came up just shy of closing out the day with a championship, as he was narrowly clipped by Mercyhurst's Tyler Mitchell in a 9-6 decision.
 
Another second-year in 157-pounder Colin Murphy registered Ithaca's next highest finish. The sophomore posted a 4-1 record on the day to take third in the loaded 157-pound bracket. Murphy began the day with a 13-5 major decision over Jamestown's Otto Davidson. He followed that up with a 7-4 decision over Mercyhurst Northeast's Aaron Morris. His lone blemish came in the Semifinal Round in an 11-2 major decision defeat against Joe Slikowski of Division II Clarion. Murphy rebounded with a pair of decision victories to take third-place in the bracket, besting his teammate Tristian Schiafo in a 5-1 win and dispatching Aaron Morris for a second time on the day by an 8-1 margin.
 
Sophomore Tristian Schiafo placed fifth in the 157-pound bracket with a mark of 3-2 on the day. Both of his wrestled bout victories came against Jamestown grapplers, as he defeated Otto Davidson in a 5-4 decision and Seth MacTavish by a 5-0 margin. He was awarded a medical forfeit win over David Crow in his fifth-place bout, however, Crow defeated Schiafo 7-3 in the opening bout of the day.
 
Senior Anthony Palmiotto also posted a 3-2 record on the day en route to a fifth-place finish in the 149-pound bracket. Two of his three victories came by way of fall, as he put Brockport's Kole Taylor to his back at 1:54 in his first consolation bout of the day and capped the day with a 1:24 pin of Michael Fronczak in the fifth-place bout. His other win came in a 10-4 decision over Mercyhurst's Matt Ferraro.
 
First-year Brecan Saul was the final IC wrestler to place on the day. He recorded a sixth-place mark in the 141-pound bracket. Saul went 2-3 on the day, earning decision victories over Austin Bourgeois of RIT (9-4) and his teammate Alex Brutcher (8-5).
