TROY, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's swimming and diving team finished third overall at the Henry Kumpf Invitational at RPI to open up the 2020 portion of its season on Saturday afternoon.

The Bombers racked up 506 points to finish behind the College of New Jersey and RPI.

IC went head-to-head with four teams – RPI, Cortland, TCNJ and
Skidmore. Ithaca picked up two wins, topping Cortland 176.00-65.00 and
Skidmore 194.00-45.00. The Bombers fell to host-team RPI 147.00-96.00 and TCNJ 158.00-83.00.

Swimming

In the first race of the day, the 400 medley relay, IC's team of
Spencer Brownewell,
Andrew Mikhailichenko,
Nate Bartalo and
Stanley Zaneski took third place with a time of 3:34.60.

The Bombers' team of
Carter Matteson,
Anthony Porto,
Matt Crysler and Timothy Hector raced to a time of 3:43.74 to claim fifth place. RPI finished in the top spot with a time of 3:29.95.

Ithaca's top-finisher in the 1,000 freestyle was first-year
Max Bridges, who took eighth in 10:20.73. TCNJ's Griff Morgan won the field with a time of 9:59.98.

Zaneski, a senior, swam to a time of 1:46.20 in the 200 freestyle to take third place. Bartalo claimed seventh place with a time of 1:50.19 while
Dylan Haraden finished in eighth after swimming to a time of 1:51.44. TCNJ's Harrison Yi won the race with a time of 1:44.41.

In the 50 freestyle, Hector was the top finisher for the Bombers, taking fourth place with a time of 22.44.
Daniel Meyers also finished among the top 10 with an eighth-place finish in 22.95. RPI's Graham Zola claimed victory with a time of 21.85.

Mikhailichenko, a senior, finished fourth in the 200 IM, racing to a time of 2:00.61.
Anthony Porto claimed eighth with a time of 2:04.26 while Matteson took ninth with a time of 2:04.30. TCNJ's Andrew Thompson won the race with a time of 1:56.22.

Sophomore
Matt Crysler was the top finisher in the 200 butterfly, taking fifth place with a time of 2:02.81. RPI's Tony Min won the field in 1:54.06.

Zaneski was once again the top finisher for the Bombers in the 100 freestyle, claiming third place in 48.35. Bartalo raced to a time of 49.13 to take sixth place. TCNJ's Harrison won the race with a time of 47.88.

In the 200 backstroke, Matteson finished fifth place with a time of 2:00.87 while Haraden took seventh in 2:01.81. TCNJ's Thompson won the field with a time of 1:53.92.

Bridges was the top finisher for IC again in the 500 freestyle, taking eighth place with a time of 5:06.38. TCNJ's Griff won with a time of 4:52.46.

Ithaca claimed its lone individual first-place finish of the day in the 200 breaststroke. Mikhailichenko won the field with a time of 2:09.59, more than three seconds faster than second place.

The Bombers wrapped up the day with a fifth-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Meyers, Hector, Brownewell and Sheehan swam to a time of 3:22.57. TCNJ's relay team won the field with a time of 3:12.31.

In diving action, junior
Justin Moczynski won the 3-meter dive with a score of 299.95. First-year
Ethan Godfrey came in second with 241.30 points while
Theo Summerville claimed sixth with a score of 223.75.

Roles were reversed in the 1-meter dive, as Godfrey won with a score of 272.25 and Moczynski took second with 266.35 points. Summerville claimed fifth place with a score of 195.35.

The Bombers are back in action next Saturday, January 25 with a road meet at Alfred at 1 p.m. The divers then return home on Sunday for the annual Dick
Comanzo Diving Invitational at 10 a.m.
