GENEVA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's tennis team was back on the courts at William Smith College on Sunday for the second day of competition at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships. Unfortunately, IC's hopes of qualifying a player to Monday's Championship Rounds came to an end on Sunday, as the Bombers capped action at the event.
 
Senior Brianna Ruback was the lone IC player remaining in the Championship Bracket of the singles draw heading into Sunday. The Bombers captain had a stellar opening day of competition, rattling off a pair of impressive victories over Scranton's Emily Kelly and RPI's Krisia Flores. The challenge grew much stronger on Sunday when Ruback faced one of the top-seeds at this year's event in Skidmore's top singles player Lily Feldman. IC's netter struggled to get much going against the Thoroughbreds' top player, falling in a 6-0, 6-1 decision to halt the run in the Round of 16.
 
Two IC rookies also took to the courts on Sunday for consolation matches in first-year entrants Rebecca Andrews and Zoe Davis. The consolation matches were played as just one-set contests, both unfortunately not going in IC's favor.
 
Davis had a solid showing in her first ITA, winning an opening round match yesterday, before falling in the Round of 32. She competed well on Sunday in her consolation bout against Union's Megan Brown, but came up just short in tiebreaker 7-6 (7-3). Andrews faced Nastashia DeNunzio of Scranton, but ultimately fell by a 6-2 margin.
 
Ithaca will conclude the fall slate in two week's time when the Bombers head to Hamilton College for a two-day event on Saturday, October 5, and Sunday, October 6.
