GENEVA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's tennis kicked off its biggest weekend of the fall tournament slate on Saturday when four Bombers made the short trip back to William Smith College for the 2019 ITA Northeast Regional Championships. IC had a solid performance during the first day of action at the event, advancing one player to tomorrow's Round of 16 in the singles draw.

Senior
Brianna Ruback headlined proceedings for Ithaca on Saturday, posting a pair of victories in the 64-player field to advance to the Round of 16, set to get underway tomorrow morning. Competing in her final ITA, Ruback made a strong statement during Saturday's action. Ruback entered the day with a coveted Top-16 seed and certainly lived up to the billing in earning a pair of dominant victories in the singles bracket.
Â
Ruback began the day with a dominant performance during the 8:30 a.m. session. She jumped out on the front-foot early in her matchup against Scranton's Emily Kelly, never allowing the Royals' player to generate any momentum in a 6-0, 6-0 whitewashing. Ruback returned to the court during the afternoon session when she took on a Liberty League foe in RPI's Krisia Flores during the Round of 32. Once-again she faced little resistance in rolling to a 6-2, 6-3 victory to advance to tomorrow's action.
Â
Ruback's road will increase in difficulty when play resumes tomorrow. She is set to face Skidmore's Lily Feldman in her third-round matchup. Feldman entered the weekend as the eighth-seed and backed up that claim with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Sarra Yekta of Vassar and a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Savannah Roberts of Hamilton on Saturday.
Â
First-year
Zoe Davis also had a solid result in singles during Saturday's action. Competing in her first ITA Regional Championship, the stage certainly was not too intimidating for the talented rookie. Davis opened the day with a clash against Brockport's Sarah Mahar. It was a dominating outing for IC's first-year talent, as she rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win.
Â
Unfortunately, she was unable to join Ruback in tomorrow's Quarterfinal Round. Davis had her run halted in the second round by a seeded entrant in NYU's Karina Jensrud, falling in a 6-0, 6-1 decision.
Â
Also competing for the Bombers in the singles bracket were sophomore
Alexandra Dyszewski and first-year
Rebecca Andrews. Dyszewski had a challenging ask in the first-round, as she drew a matchup against seeded Miriam Gandham of Vassar. IC's second-year fell in a 6-2, 6-2 decision. Andrews also drew a challenging opening round clash in fifth-seeded Liya Davidov of TCNJ. The first-year battled hard, but fell in a 6-1, 6-1 final.
Â
The doubles session was not as fruitful for the Bombers, as both of IC's doubles entries fell in the opening round. Ruback and Dyszewski came up short in an 8-3 defeat to Hamilton's Lauren Holtzman and Kat Roberts. Andrews and Davis formed a first-year tandem for the Bombers, but struggled to get things going in an 8-1 defeat to St. Lawrence's Katherine Apt and Christina Ryan.

Action is set to resume at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.
