HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Ithaca College women's tennis team was back on the courts on Saturday when it traveled downstate for the Stevens Singles Invitational in Hoboken, New Jersey. The Bombers competed well in a pair of open-format dual bouts, scoring six total victories in matches against Wilkes and Stevens at the event.
Senior captain,
Brianna Ruback, led the way for Ithaca with two victories on the day. With the Bombers opening the day against Wilkes University, Ruback scored a convincing 6-2, 6-0 win over Wilkes' Vardi-Seri in the opening matchup of the day. She continued the momentum during the evening session, besting Stevens' Agatha Malinowski in another convincing straight-sets win 6-2, 6-4.
IC had three other first-year players record singles victories on the day. Headlining the group was
Sarah Sposito, who posted two wins in another impressive performance by the IC rookie. Sposito began the day with a 6-2, 6-2 straight-sets victory over Wilkes' Rachel Thomas. She followed up that effort with another impressive performance, winning against Stevens' Makenna Sargis by a 6-2, 6-3 final score.
Two other Ithaca rookies earned wins on the day. Both victories came during the evening session, as first-years
Rebecca Andrews and
Caroline Herz each earned victories. Andrews defeated Stevens' Alexis Fuda by a 6-1, 6-2 final score, while Herz topped Gabriella Tantillo of the Ducks by a 7-5, 6-0 score match.
