BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The 22nd-ranked Ithaca College women's volleyball team was back on the courts at Brockport's Memorial Hall on Saturday for the second day of the Brockport Golden Eagle Invitational. The Bombers turned in a fantastic effort on Saturday, besting both Rochester and Brockport in straight-sets to improve to 6-3 on the season.
"I'm really proud of the how we were able to compete in both matches today," head coach
Johan Dulfer said. "I think today's action was a big step forward for our team in terms of the level of confidence we were able to play with throughout the day. Whenever we needed a point we were able to rise to the occasion and deliver when called upon."
#22 Ithaca 3 - Rochester 0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-12)
Ithaca began the day's action during the morning session when it faced University of the Rochester at 11:30 a.m. Ithaca turned in one of its most dominant attacking efforts of the season, hitting .348 as a team in a convincing win over the Yellowjackets. The closest set was the opener, in which IC still held a comfortable edge, outpacing Rochester 16-to-9 in kills to score the 25-18 win. The following two sets were not as close, as IC raced out to big leads and easily saw things out in double-digit set victories.
Junior
Reagan Stone paced the Bombers with 13 kills on .320 hitting success. The third-year talent also racked up a match-high four service aces and amassed two block assists. Sophomore
Alison Lipton also delivered major production at the pins, finishing withĀ 11 kills on a .240 hitting clip in the victory. Chipping in production at the pins were junior
Sarah Jennison and first-year
Camryn O'Leary. The rookie posted two kllls, three digs and one service ace, while Jennison came up big down the stretch in finishing with four kills on .429 hitting success.
In the middle, first-year
Jennifer Pitts marked eight kills on just 12 total attacks (.583 hitting), while sophomore
Monet Peoples finished with four kills on .333 hitting. Pitts would add two service aces, one solo block and one block assist defensively, while Peoples registered one solo block and two block assists in the match.Ā
Senior setter
Caitlyn Floyd registered 37 assists, while she went 3-for-3 in kills on attacks in a strong effort by the senior.
The back line was paced by sophomore libero
Jordyn Lyn Hayashi who finished with 11 digs. First-year
Grace Isaksen registered six digs, while classmate
Hannah Hughes finished with five digs and a match-high five service aces.
#22 Ithaca 3 - Brockport 0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-23)
Ithaca had a quick turnaround during the night cap, facing Brockport immediately following the team's win over Rochester during the morning session. The final match of the weekend was battled closely against the hosts, but IC was able to buckle down and earn the results in the key points of the match to dispatch the Golden Eagles. The win was the program's first victory over Brockport dating back to the 2014 season.
Stone again led the Bombers with 15 kills on .233 hitting success, while she also notched a double-double with 15 digs. Adding to the production at the pins was firstt-year outside hitter
Noemi Talton, who finished finished with seven kills, seven digs and one block assist. Lipton added to IC's attack on the outside with six kills, while JennisonĀ helped the Bombers seal things in the final set, going 3-for-3 in her attacks for three clutch kills that ultimately helped the Bombers seal the three-set win.
In the middle, Pitts continued to establish herself as a threat on both offense and defense. She finished with six kills on .400 hitting success, while she added two solo blocks and three block assists, defensively. Junior
Katie Basey delivered two kills and two block assists in a complementary effort alongside Pitts.
Floyd capped the day with another 30-plus assist effort, finishing with 34. She would add four kills, three block assists, and would notch her second double-double of the weekend with 12 digs.
The backline was paced by sophomore libero
Jordyn Lyn Hayashi. She finished with 14 digs, while she also racked up five assists and two service aces in the match. The first-year tandem of
Grace Isaksen and
Hannah Hughes finished with nine digs and eight digs, respectively.
"Once-again, the results from today were the culmination of a total team effort," Dulfer concluded. "I'm really pleased we were able to take the lessons we learned from Friday and translate that into a pair of momentum building performances today. Our focus is the continue to make these positive steps and continue to grow our confidence heading into another challenging set of matches next weekend."
Ithaca will return to the courts next Friday, September 20, when it takes on Mary Washington in the first-day of the Susquehanna River Hawks Invitational. Start time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
