HARTFORD, Conn. – The Ithaca College women's tennis team continued its NESCAC stretch to conclude the regular-season on Saturday morning, hitting the road to the Nutmeg State to face Trinity (Conn.). The Bombers were blanked by the Bantoms in a 9-0 defeat.
For the second time over the past three days IC faced a significant non-league test in the NESCAC foe. Trinity jumped out on IC with a strong doubles session and never looked back. The Bombers played some competitive matches in the top-half of the singles lineup, but were unable to snag a team point for the second straight outing in the loss.

The singles session was highlighted on Ithaca's side by another strong performance by
Kathryn Shaffer in the second-singles battle against Marta Drausnik. The IC senior took Drausnik the full distance in a compelling opening set. Unfortunately, Shaffer came up short by a razor-thin margin, falling 8-6 in the tiebreaker. She was unable to get going in the second set, falling 6-1.
Senior
Caroline Dunn also had a competitive battle in the first-singles matchup against Elena Pellegrini. The first set came down to one break, as Trinity's netter edged out Dunn in a 6-4 set. Dunn put up a good fight but could not extend the match to a third frame, falling 6-3 in the second. First-year
Alexandra Dyszewski had a similar battle against Julia Brogan in the third-singles matchup, coming up shy in consecutive 6-3 sets.
Sophomore
Sara Steinberg, as well as first-years
Rel Klein and
Shannon Wolfe struggled to score winners throughout their matches in the fourth-singles, fifth-singles and sixth-singles, respectively. Steinberg lost 6-1, 6-1 to Krista Jiranek. Klein fell 6-1, 6-1 against Jillian Winer, while Wolfe dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision in a loss to Ashley Walker.
Ithaca will face William Smith in the opening round of the Liberty League Tournament next week. The Herons scored a 7-2 victory over the Bombers inside Glazer Arena earlier this season. The match is set to take place on Friday, May 3, at Cornell's Reis Tennis Center with start time yet to be officially announced.
