CoSIDA Release
Â
GREENWOOD, Ind. – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced its list of Academic All-District honorees for women's volleyball late this past week. Ithaca College had one representative on the list for NCAA Division III District 3, which encompasses all program's residing in the State of New York. Senior setter
Caitlyn Floyd was IC's lone representative, adding another award in accolade-filled career of one of the most-accomplished setters in program history.
Â
It is the second consecutive year that Floyd has been an Academic All-District selection by the district's athletic communications personnel. The IC senior was one of seven student-athletes named to the First Team in the region. Joining Floyd on the list for District 3 were: Maddie Bredehoeft (Clarkson), Lauren Fie (Oswego State), Kate Isaksen (Clarkson), Megan Ryder (Sage), Gillian Stieglitz (SUNY Oneonta), and Samantha Wolf (Morrisville State).
Â
Floyd capped her accomplished career on the court this past weekend, as the Bombers advanced to the NCAA Regional Championship (NCAA Round of 16) for a third consecutive season. IC unfortunately came up just short of punching its ticket to the NCAA Championships site (Quarterfinal Round) for a third consecutive season, falling to Liberty League rival Clarkson in another rollercoaster five-set marathon match in Potsdam, New York, on Sunday afternoon. Floyd delivered a heroic performance in IC's comeback bid, amassing 57 assists, nine digs, and two kills in helping the Bombers climb all the way back from a two-set deficit to come within two points of a trip to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for the NCAA Quarterfinals.
Â
Floyd had a remarkable final season on South Hill, reaching new single-season career highs in several key statistics. She finished the year with a single-season best 1,265 assists, averaging 11.29 assists per set, while her 55.0 total blocks and 239 digs also were career bests. She finished the season with 10 double-doubles en route to earning All-Liberty League First Team praise for a third consecutive season. Floyd also was tabbed an AVCA All-New York Region First Team honoree for a second straight year, ensuring her as the program's first-ever setter to ever achieve the honor twice in a career.
Â
On the year, Floyd ranked third in the country in assists per set average. Her total assists mark also ranked well within the nation's Top-20 despite playing in the least amount of sets of anyone located within the nation's Top-30 players for the statistic.
Â
As mentioned earlier, Floyd's announcement as an Academic All-District selection marks the second straight year that she has achieved the prestigious honor for her work in the classroom. She is set to graduate from Ithaca's Emerging Media program in the Park School of Communications this coming Spring.
