DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The sixth-ranked Ithaca College wrestling continued its weekend road trip on Saturday morning when it faced off against Delaware Valley in what has become a perennial dual meet between the two celebrated programs. The Aggies proved to be no match for the Bombers on this day, as IC raced past Delaware Valley for a 39-0 shutout, scoring a second victory in less than 24 hours. The win improves Ithaca's record to 6-4 in dual meet formats on the season.

Back on the mats less than 24-hours after picking up a comfortable 29-14 dual-meet victory over Centenary University (N.J.), Ithaca hoped to continue the momentum into Saturday's early start against the Aggies. The Bombers certainly responded, shaking off some lingering fatigue with a workmanlike effort in the runaway victory. IC posted bonus points in three of the eight total wrestled-bouts in the match, while two forfeits helped to inflate the team total score to Ithaca's most lopsided win of the season thus far.
Â
Breaking away from the traditional mold, Delaware Valley elected to begin at the 174-pound weight class with Kyle Hillermeier squaring off against IC's
Steven Rice. The Ithaca junior set the tone for the visitors, pulling away over the final two periods to secure a 9-3 decision. Senior captain
Jake Ashcraft (1
st NWCA | 1
st d3wrestle) doubled the advantage shortly thereafter. Although Delaware Valley's Anthony Costanza was able to make things close late, Ashcraft grinded out the 12-9 decision to push IC's advantage to 6-0 through two bouts.
Â
The Bombers closed out the heavier weights with back-to-back bonus-point victories to break things open. Junior
Dalton Elias stretched Ithaca's lead to 10-0, connecting on several shots in a 13-3 major decision over the Aggies' Steve Horvath. Senior captain
Jake O'Brien (5
th NWCA | 6
th d3wrestle) followed suit with his second win with bonus points of the weekend. He controlled matters from the outset in a 14-4 major decision over Oscar Daniels.
Â
Senior captain 125-pounder
Ferdinand Mase received a forfeit, which elevated Ithaca's lead to 20-0 at the midway point of the match.
Â
The two closest battles of the day came at the 133-pound and 141-pound weight classes. However, junior
Tito Colom and senior
Chris Wymer kept the shutout alive and well for IC, each outlasting their opponents for narrow decision victories. Entering the third-period tied at 4-4 with Delaware Valley's Russel Benson, Colom was able to get in on a leg and bring Benson to the mat late in the third period to score a 6-4 decision. Seeing his first action of the season, Wymer came firing out the gates to race out to a 6-0 advantage over Delaware Valley's Rob Duxbury. Although the Aggie grappler was able to whittle away at Wymer's advantage in the third period, the IC wrestler prevailed in an 8-4 decision. The two victories clinched matters for the Bombers with three bouts remaming.
Â
Ithaca's point advantage widened above the 30-point threshold when senior
Demetri D'Orsaneo received a forfeit at 149-pounds. However, Ithaca kept on pushing with the shutout still in the balance. Senior
Jawan Jones snapped a three-bout losing skid with a strong effort at 157-pounds. He jumped out to a comfortable advantage over Chris Richardson and sealed things with a third-period reversal to take a 9-5 decision. Junior
Austin Whitney (9
th d3wrestle) capped the victory for IC with a 14-6 major decision over Anthony Snyder at 165-pounds. It was a gutsy victory for Whitney, who had a pair of injury scares in the bout, but was able to battle through the pain to pick up the win.

The Bombers will be back in action tomorrow when a contingent of wrestlers are set to head to Jamestown, N.Y., for the annual Jamestown Community College Open. Start time for the event is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
