GENEVA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's tennis got its 2018 fall schedule underway on Saturday when they made the short trip up the lake to Geneva to take part in the Mary Hosking Invitational hosted by William Smith College. The Bombers had several players get their first taste of action in singles and doubles action, sending a few players to tomorrow's consolation rounds, while senior Kathryn Shaffer picked up a pair of victories to advance in the winner's bracket.
 
The highlight of the day certainly came from Shaffer, who posted two wins to advance to the semifinal round in the 'B' Flight. It was an encouraging start for the senior, who is coming off a solid campaign in a headliner role last season.
 
Also picking up victories on the day were senior Caroline Dunn and junior Brianna Ruback in the 'A' Flight. Dunn's victory came in the first round match, while Ruback dropped her opening match, but scored a win to stay alive in the consolation rounds.
 
Players that also made their singles debuts on Saturday was sophomore Sara Steinberg and first-year netter Rel Klein. Unfortunately, neither player was able to score a victory in the win column on Saturday, but still turned in solid efforts.
 
The Bombers had one doubles tandem also advance in the consolation rounds, as Ruback and Steinberg combined for a victory in their first consolation round battle.
