ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's tennis team kicked off its final week of tune-ups ahead of the ITA Northeast Regional Championships next weekend when it welcomed a quartet of squads for the first day of action at the Ithaca Invitational on Saturday. The Bombers played several matches over the course of the morning and afternoon in a perfect day of competition on South Hill.

Playing a "hidden dual" tournament format, which allows more freedom to coaches to try players in different spots in the lineup, as well as multiple doubles combinations, the Bombers got see all of its players in action on Saturday. The Bombers played singles matches against Union and Rochester, while also taking on Hamilton in doubles tilts on Saturday.

Highlighting the first day of competition for IC was the performance of senior
Caroline Dunn. The Fall River, Mass., product posted victories in both of her singles matches on the day. She also played well in her lone doubles match of the day, although the Bombers fell short of the mark in a narrow defeat to Hamilton's top grouping.

Dunn kicked off the day with an excellent 8-6 triumph over Union's Megan Brown. Trailing by a game throughout the pro-set, Dunn scored a crucial break down the stretch and pulled ahead with victories in the final three games to take the matchup. Dunn carried that momentum into her afternoon session in singles. Using her power forehand, she easily pulled away in her matchup against Rochester's Yaya Wang, winning 8-2.

Dunn paired with senior
Kathryn Shaffer in IC's lone doubles action of the day. Taking on Hamilton's Sophia Aulicino and Audrey Chor, Ithaca's tandem led throughout much of the pro-set, but had things slip away late in an 8-6 defeat.

Also recording victories on the day were junior
Brianna Ruback and sophomore
Sara Steinberg. Both players scored their singles win during the morning session against Union.

Ruback scored her win over Tal Pezzuco, defeating the Dutchwomen netter by an 8-2 score. It was a strong effort by the junior, as she came out on the winning end of several long rallies throughout the match in the comfortable victory. Like Dunn, Steinberg scored her win in comeback fashion, storming back to win the final three games in a 9-7 victory.

Kathryn Shaffer, junior
Jane Alkhazov, and first-year
Rel Klein. All three players turned in solid efforts albeit in defeats in their matches on Saturday.
