Baseball Posts 6-1 Home Victory over New Paltz on Tuesday

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team racked up 13 hits offensively, and the pitching staff held visiting New Paltz to just four, as the Bombers prevailed on Tuesday afternoon at Freeman Field, 6-1. Ithaca is now 22-14 on the season, while New Paltz drops to 16-16.

The Bombers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a first-and-third double steal, which allowed senior Domenic Boresta to score and junior Webb Little moved up to second. Boresta and W. Little both reached on base hits.

IC extended its lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth as freshman Jack Lynch drove in junior John Peterson with a bunt single. Peterson led off the inning with a single up the middle and advanced to second on an error by the New Paltz defense, and then moved up to third on a base hit by junior Matt Carey.

New Paltz got on the board in the top of the fifth to cut Ithaca's lead in half. A bloop single to left field broke up junior Jake Binder's no-hit bid after 4.1 innings pitched, and that batter came around to score after an error, wild pitch and sacrifice fly.

Binder allowed just four hits on the day over eight innings and fanned six for his sixth win of the season.

Ithaca regained its two-run lead, 3-1, in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI double off the left field wall by junior Andrew Bailey. W. Little scored on the play after he doubled to right-center in the previous at bat.

Another run would score for the Bombers in the sixth on a double from Boresta that one-hopped the right field fence and sophomore Andrew Wollner scored all the way from first base. Wollner roped a single to center to find his way on the base paths.

The inning continued as junior Jaker Generali drove a single down the left field line to bring home Boresta to make the score 5-1 Bombers.

Ithaca's final run crossed in the eighth as Wollner came home on a wild pitch.

Five different Bombers recorded multi-hit games in the win – Bailey, Carey, Generali, W. Little and Wollner.

W. Little also threw the ninth inning and struck the final batter of the game out looking.

Ithaca is back in action tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. against Alfred State at Falcon Park in Auburn.
