Women’s Tennis Halted by Franklin & Marshall in 8-1 Defeat

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Ithaca College women's tennis team was back on the courts in Orlando, Fla., on Wednesday evening when they took on Franklin & Marshall in the second of three matches during the team's spring break trip. The Diplomats were able to halt IC's bid for two consecutive victories, downing the Bombers in an 8-1 final.

Ithaca entered the day looking to build off its momentum from a 5-4 triumph over Stevens Institute of Technology on Monday. Unfortunately, IC was never able to recover after falling into an early hole during doubles play. Franklin & Marshall controlled the contest from the outset and scored all six wins during the singles session to deny Ithaca of evening its season record at 3-3. With the loss, IC falls to 2-4 on the year.

Ithaca's lone win of the evening came in the second-doubles matchup. The duo of sophomore Brianna Ruback and junior Taylor Ginestro continued its strong results with a convincing 8-3 triumph. The win sent IC into the singles session trailing just 2-1. That was as close as Ithaca would be in the contest, as the Diplomats took firm control of the match with three wins in quick succession to seal the contest.

The highlight of the singles session was junior Caroline Dunn, who was the lone IC netter to win a set during solo play. She evened her second-singles matchup at one-set apiece, before ultimately falling 6-10 in a third-set super-breaker. Ruback scored three games in each of her two frames in the first-singles matchup, but ultimately came up short in straight sets 3-6, 3-6. Ginestro also nearly forced a third set in her third-singles matchup, but came up just shy in the second set 4-6. Senior Sam Brown also saw her first competition action of the spring, battling in a challenging sixth-singles bout, but ultimately falling in straight-sets.
