After a weather delay pushed the start time back to mid-afternoon, the Sunshine State finally showed its true colors, making for the best conditions of the spring. The Bombers and Ducks squared off in a competitive doubles session to begin the match; however, Stevens was able to score the team point in all three matchups to take a commanding lead.
The closest battle in the doubles session came in the second pairing, as sophomores
Max Prestwich and
Liam Spiegel nearly evened the match at 1-1. The tandem went toe-to-toe with Kyle Henry and Mark Kanevsky, but unfortunately a crucial break proved the difference in an 8-6 defeat. Stevens took firm control of the match shortly after when Danny Pok and William Persson were able to score their own close win in an 8-5 triumph over sophomores
Minos Stavrakas and
Colten Lavery in the top-flight matchup.
With momentum firmly in control, Stevens sealed the deal relatively early in the singles session. The highlight of the day for the IC men came in the second-singles matchup, as IC scored its lone point when junior
Sam McGrath scored a thrilling three-set victory over Kyle Henry. He took the opening set by a 6-4 score, but Henry answered back with a 6-3 win of his own in the second frame. With the match already decided, the duo played a super-breaker in the third, with McGrath inching past 11-9 in extra-points.
Also playing a competitive singles bout was IC's second-year netter in Prestwich. He also went to a third set in his fourth-singles bout, but ultimately fell in a 10-8 super-breaker to Mark Kanevsky.
Ithaca returns to action on Wednesday, March 14, when it continues its spring break with a matchup against Franklin & Marshall.
