Women's Basketball Tops St. Lawrence, 52-42

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's basketball team topped St. Lawrence, 52-42, on Saturday afternoon in Ben Light Gymnasium.
 
The Bombers improve to 17-6 overall with a 12-4 mark in the Liberty League while St. Lawrence falls to 15-7 overall and 10-5 in conference play.
 
Ithaca held a small lead for the majority of the first quarter after two Cassidy O'Malley free throws put the Bombers on the board.
 
A Meghan Hynes layup tied things up and a shot from behind the arc from Kaelyn Kohlasch gave the Saints a 5-2 lead at the 7:28 mark.
 
Allie Tunick drained a three to tie things up again before Katie Gallagher gave St. Lawrence another lead.
 
From there, the Bombers tied the game on an O'Malley layup and took a four-point lead on two free throws from Erin Woop and a layup from Meghan Pickell.
 
IC extended its lead to open up the second quarter with a three from Annie Giannone before the Saints scored four straight points to cut the Bombers' lead down to 14-12.
 
Ithaca went on to build up a six-point lead several times throughout the second quarter, but the Saints were there to cut into it every time. Pickell's jumper with just over one minute left gave IC a 24-18 lead which was cut down a point by a Kohlasch free throw to end the half.
 
St. Lawrence's Katie Frederick started the second half with a layup for the Saints before O'Malley hit a jumper for the Bombers.
 
The Saints went on to cut the Bombers' lead down to just one point midway through the third and take a 30-28 lead on a Hynes three at the 4:47 mark.
 
Pickell hit a layup with 4:01 left in the third to give the Bombers another lead, which they would not relinquish for the rest of the game. IC ended the third quarter, outscoring the Saints 6-1.
 
A Grace Cannon free throw pushed the Bombers through to the fourth quarter with a 39-33 lead.
 
Only six points were scored between both teams in the first half of the fourth quarter.
 
Ithaca's lead hit double-digits with 3:12 left in the game when Yacovoni hit a layup. That lead was extended when she drained a three-pointerat the 2:20 mark, putting IC up 48-35.
 
The Saints hit a layup followed by a Cara Waterson three to close the gap to just eight points in the final minute of play.
 
O'Malley and Pickell each hit two free throws in the last minute to close things out and give the Bombers the win.
 
Ithaca was led by Cassidy O'Malley with 16 points, four blocks and three steals. Meghan Pickell also scored in double-figures, netting 10 points and grabbing five boards. Yacovoni added seven points and nine rebounds on the day.
 
St. Lawrence was led by Frederick's double-double of 17 points and 16 rebounds.
 
The Bombers are back in action next Friday and Saturday for the final weekend of the regular-season schedule. On Friday night, IC hosts Bard at 6 p.m. which will also be Faculty/Staff Appreciation night.
 
On Saturday IC will take on Vassar at 2 p.m. Prior to Saturday's game, the Bombers will honor their seniors – Yacovoni, Woop, Allison Spaschak and Jordan Beers.
