Women’s Tennis Falls to Connecticut College in Regular Season Finale

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Ithaca College women's tennis team got its final regular-season tune-up ahead of the upcoming NCAA Tournament on Sunday when it hit the road to face non-conference foe Connecticut College. The Bombers fell to 13-7 during the regular season, as the Camels scored an 8-1 decision over the Bombers.

Ithaca's lone point on the afternoon came during the doubles portion of the competition. Although Connecticut scored victories in the second and third flights, the Bombers top-flight tandem of senior Haley Kusak and sophomore Caroline Dunn were able to pull IC back into the match with an 8-6 triumph over the Camels' Emily Migliorini and Stephanie Simon. The win was the duo's 17th victory together this season.

Trailing the match 2-1, Ithaca battled hard during the singles portion of the match. Two flights went to a third set, but unfortunately the Bombers were unable to secure a team point in any of the flights.

The closest calls for Ithaca came from its winning doubles duo, as Kusak and Dunn both played matches that went the distance.

In the third flight, Dunn dropped the opening set 6-4, before rallying for a 6-2 decision in the second set. With the match already decided due to Connecticut victories in other flights, the third-flight bout went to a super-breaker to decide the outcome. Dunn and Connecticuts' Stephanie Simon traded counter-blows throughout, but it was Simon that was able to score the decisive break in an 11-9 win.

The top-flight match between Kusak and Aleksandra Drljaca followed a similar pattern. The Camels' netter scored a 7-5 win in the opening frame, while Kusak responded with a 6-4 victory in the second set. Her super-breaker was not as close as Dunn's, as Drljaca pulled away for a 10-3 decision to take the final flight to finish on the day.
