ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's tennis team returned to action at Glazer Arena inside the Athletics & Events Center on Sunday for the second contest of its non-traditional spring season against William Smith College. The Bombers took three of six singles flights, but were shutout in doubles falling to the Herons 6-3 for the match.
For the second straight match, the Ithaca women found themselves in an early hole after being shutout in doubles play. The first two flights were closely-fought battles.
Haley Kusak and
Caroline Dunn lost an 8-5 decision to William Smith's Hannah More and Katarina Kostovic in the top flight.
Brianna Ruback and
Taylor Ginestro fell to Allie Perron and Kate Foley in an even closer 8-6 decision.
Ithaca took matchups at first-, second-, and fourth-flight singles, but unfortunately the hole was too deep to climb out of to pick up its first victory of the spring. Kusak defeated More 6-2, 6-4 to continue her excellent senior season. Ruback won the only match to go three sets, defeating Perron in the second flight 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. Senior
Jodi Grosberg picked up a 6-4, 6-1 win over Foley in the fourth flight.
Ithaca returns to action during Spring Break, as it will play three matches over the course of five days in Orlando, Fla.
