ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's tennis team is set to get its traditional spring season underway on Sunday when it travels to the University of Rochester for a match against the perennially tough Yellowjackets.
The last time the Bombers hit the court for competition was during the fall non-traditional season, in which the team hit the road for three tournaments. Several members of the team got their feet wet with competitive action, setting the stage for what should be an exciting spring for the men's netters.
Highlighting the non-traditional season for IC was the performance of its talented freshman
Minos Stavrakas, who established himself as a force to be reckoned with during his collegiate debut this past fall. The top performance of his fall came at the ITA Northeast Regionals, where he advanced to the quarterfinal round, before falling to eventual champion Kai Yuen Leung of Skidmore.
Senior Nathan Wolf also enjoyed a strong fall, with five wins in singles matches and a 3-3 mark in doubles play. Wolf picked up victories at both the Bloomsburg Invite and the St. Lawrence Invites in September and should once again be a part of the doubles equation this spring.
Sophomore
Michael Gardiner should also play a prominent role for the Bombers this spring after facing some of the stiffest competition in matches this past fall. Gardiner primarily paired with Stavrakas during doubles in the fall, which included a run to the final four of the ITA Northeast Regionals.
The Bombers also will see increased action from
Lorenzo Viguie-Ramos,
Wes Davis,
Stefan Lazarevic, and
Brandon Buksbaum who all saw extensive action during the spring season in 2016.
Ithaca will make its home debut next Saturday, February 25, when it welcomes Liberty League foe St. Lawrence to the Glazer Arena Indoor Courts inside the Athletics & Events Center. Men's match is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. with the women playing a non-traditional season match at 1:30 p.m.
